I could say a whole lot of words about my most grailiest of grail dolls but I will refrain from that and leave you with a bunch of Soony photos with minimal explanation. I will make my scale exception for her, she is the best and I love her. In the less than a year I’ve had her she’s had body mods, she’s had three faceups because I wanted it perfect, she got a rare old F60 body just for me to steal the arms a legs from, and I’ve made her two different hard cap wigs. I’m still feeling out her personality/character but she’s by far my favorite non-OC doll.

She’s a Garden of Dolls Nabiya I got on eBay for an extreme bargain, but she smelled badly of cigarette smoke, so she had to have a good bath. I think her company faceup was “enhanced” with nail polish. I was really afraid it would have stained her badly, but it came off fine. I did her faceup along with Conchita’s that went really badly in December, so I was frustrated and still haven’t quite finished it, even though I don’t think hers is bad.

Nabiya is an old American artist sculpt, casted by Bobobie/Resinsoul. I’ve liked her for a long time so she was cool to find. She’s dark tan and this is batch is darker and and the cooler side which I love.

Once I was actually nearly finished with my OC dolls, but not off my OC dolls kick, naturally I started thinking about shelling more OCs. King had been in the back of my head for a while, but I never come across any Project Doll Parts that seemed like they would work for her. When I realized the scale that Daniel and Tennant had turned out, though, I realized… hmm, that’s about FID size. And Iplehouse is a great aesthetic match for a Barbie like King. And when I went looking, I found a perfect combination of sculpt and color for her on the DoA marketplace, so that was that.

I made her wig pretty quickly, but I put off redoing her faceup because the Iplehouse one was perfectly nice. My first redo attempt, in December 2020, was just bad! Sometimes it’s just not working with you. I gave it another try slowly over this spring/summer and I’m much happier with the result. She’s gorgeous and she poses… enough, but I hate the Iplehouse hips, haha.

In spring 2020 I was going to attend an anime convention that obviously Did Not Happen, so I spent some of the money I’d set aside for that on an anime doll instead. I happened to find both the head and body I wanted readily available for a good price – 55cm Obitsu with a Parabox Sleeping Princess head. I’ve never had a soft vinyl/internal skeleton doll before, but they’re very fun! I was going for Animal Crossing vibes with her faceup (hence no eyebrows) but you can tell that the anime style thing isn’t my wheelhouse, haha.

Also from late 2019 to Summer 2020, here’s Tennant 2.0, which I worked on alongside Daniel. His head sculpt is a lot more refined compared to the first version, and more appropriately scaled. Like Daniel, he’s printed on my Anycubic Photon, primed, and airbrushed. I think it’s cool to see how much I’ve improved at faceups as well! I did go back and darken his brows a bit when I replaced his eyes. I’m very pleased that these two look good together now.

Daniel 2.0! I worked on him (the head + wig, the body is unchanged) from late 2019 through mid 2020. I refined the sculpt slightly and printed it out on an Anycubic Photon resin 3D printer this time. I didn’t do much sanding, just primed and airbrushed the head. The faceup went a lot better this time as well. I made him a wig from some mohair I had custom dyed on Etsy, but I think I’ll make a separate post about wigs later. I’m quite proud of how he turned out.
