Daniel 2.0! I worked on him (the head + wig, the body is unchanged) from late 2019 through mid 2020. I refined the sculpt slightly and printed it out on an Anycubic Photon resin 3D printer this time. I didn’t do much sanding, just primed and airbrushed the head. The faceup went a lot better this time as well. I made him a wig from some mohair I had custom dyed on Etsy, but I think I’ll make a separate post about wigs later. I’m quite proud of how he turned out.

Hello from August 30th Glace! This is the first post I’m throwing in there since I filled up my queue. I really don’t know how to reply to reblogs and stuff but I’m super touched by everyone’s nice comments and support! Thank you so much!

I bought a BABY from JAPAN, aka: Mandarake had an old Volks doll of the sculpt family I love, described as junk, for a very reasonable price. MSD Schulze on a girl body! Is that not just a Maria?? I don’t know! Old baby is from 2005.

I decided to mod them to look a bit more like their SD counterparts, so I used milliput to shrint the eyes and sanded some sharper angles into the face. I put them down for a long time because I wasn’t feeling the blank face, but once I started on the sescond layer of the faceup I warmed up to it. I’m still trying to land on a good body for them… they’re too mature for the MSD body but not mature enough for a slimmer body (and the head is huge). I did swap out the hands for Akagidoll hands.

I got an Unoa Lusis head at a doll show and decided that I wanted her to be a Sphinx! Imade her body in the posable art doll style and I learned a ton about how to do it better in the future, haha. She has a Buff headback, the sanded Resinsoul Tang upper torso I had left over from Daniel, and a pair of ResinSoul jointed hands. I 3D printed the wrist parts. She borrowed Soony’s wig for the convention I brought her to (November 2019, RIP conventions), then I got her a better one than the gray wig in the top photo there but I haven’t gotten a photo of her in it yet.

In 2019, I was thinking about Doll Chateau’s humantaur dolls and thought I’d scratch the itch with a modding project. I got a couple of the Tall MTM dolls and just went for it. They were attached with Apoxie sculpt, then E6000, then I went over the seam with some acetone-melted plastic goop a la @dolljunk , although I didn’t realize that the skintone didn’t quite match until I saw it in daylight, haha. I’ve since put a better-matching 90s Teresa head on this body.

After I made the Tennant BJD, I had to make Daniel, but he was a much bigger project because I knew that I couldn’t get a body with the right body type (ESPECIALLY not in ¼ size). He was a work in progress through a lot of 2019.

I created the torso sculpt starting with an open source character creation addon for Blender (Manuel Bastioni or something like that? It wasn’t available anymore last I checked.) but I modified/resculpted it quite a bit. The head, like Tennant’s, was done in Sculptris then Blender. I finished the pieces the same way as Tennant’s head… it was just more pieces and a lot more work. I also put some heavy gloss around the joints to protect the paint under the final matte sealant coat, and all the pieces are sueded with real suede very generously. None of the joints have chipped yet.

I used the limbs from the Resinsoul Tang body Tennant was on before and I got some ¼ Dollshe 28M hands. He’s kind of similar in measurements to a DearSD or “Big Baby” doll. I’ve since created an updated head (I didn’t even finish the wig for this one, haha) but the body is still the same.

3D printed Tennant BJD, mk 1, from 2018! He was originally made for a Resinsound Tang body with Dollshe hands, then I got him an Akagidoll body later. He was sculpted by me in Sculptris and finished in Blender. I printed him on my Monosprice Maker Select Plus and finished the head with putty, spray can primer, lots of sanding, and a terrible thick coat of Krylon spray paint. His hard cap wig is saran and very much glued in place, haha.

I’m still pretty proud of him honestly, but I made a version with a refined sculpt, smaller head, and resin print later.

In 2018 I managed to acquire a version of a dream doll of mine, Minifee Juri 2014/Elf Soony! Soony was the first BJD sculpt that I fell in love with so I was thrilled to have a small version of her. She started with a Resinsoul Rong body, which I did pretty much all the same mods that I described on Myr on with the addition of modding the hards into wrist pieces for the Minifee hands. I airbrushed her to match the lighter Resinsoul resin, but did a bad job of it, so the pain was pooled around her nose. I still like her faceup, but I’ve since gotten her a Minifee body, so I will need to do one that isn’t airbrushed lighter.

She’s a mean little vampire matriarch who dresses like a goth teen to get people to underestimate her.

My fashion Saint, Dennis (aka, uh, Saint, I’m very creative). I ordered him in October 2016 and recieved him in September 2017. He’s one of the few dolls I didn’t mod around that time. I like him a lot! I always wanted a Saint but 70cm is too big for me.

Wesley, a Souldoll Soulkid Joelle! The Soulkid NL body is pretty awful to handle. I did extensive mods to the shoulders, legs and hips, but I still replaced his body with an Akagidoll one recently. He’s long overdue for a new faceup. His wig is brushed yarn and he’s had a few custom pairs of eyes, mostly resin… I just keep replacing them whenever I can find smaller irises, haha.

Older/progress photos of Myr!

I sanded down a LOT of resin on the mid-torso to rough in the wasp waist and lessen the muscle definition. Then I sliced about a centimeter off the top and sanded it down from there, shortening the torso significantly. I expected to make the torso look short, but it was so elongated that it looks more normal than where I started, haha. It’s also now a rounded joint instead of one with a ridge like the original, so it can be moved without pulling. I significantly reduced the bottom edge of the upper torso. I didn’t change the shape of the joint, I just ground down the edge and the chest. I flattened out the chest as well, which sounds like a weird thing to do on a male body, but the shape actually looked more like modest breasts than pecs, especially with my waist mod, and Myr doesn’t have breasts, so I flattened it out to a more ambiguous shape.
Sanded down the catches on the shoulders and upper knees.
Tried to fix some of the issues with the lower knees. Honestly, they’re just not very well shaped or designed, but I tried a few things that might help. I carved out more of the back so that the edge of the cup is surrounding more of the ball and flattened the sides of the ball.
Sliced the thighs into two pieces added a mobility joint.
Sanded down the tops of the ears so I can sculpt the downturned ones. RIP Seng’s cute ears.

The elbow cup piece is actually pretty round on top, but the upper arm’s socket is oblong, so the joint doesn’t work like a ball joint and won’t rotate. But! The upper arm’s socket is actually round with the exception of the pieces that extend down the sides. If you cut/grind those down, you get a regular nice round ball joint that actually rotates and works well.
That alone reduces the annoying rotate-and-popping thing the bottom joint does, but I really really hate that so I wanted to make it impossible. I did exactly the same thing I did in the lower leg: I carved out the inner joint area of the lower arm (the bottom of the ball part) so that the double-joint/cup part doesn’t get pushed out when it bends. Uh, it makes more sense when you see it.

I didn’t change the middle/elbow/cup part at all. I did also flatten the sides of the ball part of the lower arm; that probably didn’t make a difference right now, but I want to suede the sides of the joint when I’m done.

The arm is no longer a terrible obnoxious pain. The top part moves freely and with sufficient friction (because this joint actually fits well) and the bottom no longer rotates (no more Z elbows) or pops. I also suspect the bottom bends a little further, but I didn’t really check.

I also did a mouth opening with custom tooth piece, downturned elf ears, and filled in the sides of the eyes, then did some general face sanding mods.

They were dyed with Rit Dyemore (after an ordeal where my iDye Poly wouldn’t stay the same color for 5 minutes), sueded, scarred and painted. They’ve had two custom wigs, one with Tibetan lamb and one with brushed yarn, and several pairs of custom resin eyes.

I don’t even know where to begin with posting dolls here, so instead of going through a photo backlog, I’m just going to go doll by doll.

First is Myr (they/them), my heavily modded Resinsoul Seng that I got in 2017 and the beginning of me getting back into BJDs. I’ll post more about the mod process in a seperate post, these are just more recent photos.

So, I’ve
been thrifting as a hobby for years and in that time I’ve amassed so much more
doll stuff than I will ever use. It’s gotten to the point that I’m too
overwhelmed to really enjoy the 1/6 stuff, so a lot of it needs to go. It’s all
cool stuff (in my opinion, it’s stuff I’ve kept this long at least) but mostly
of interest to customizer types (as in, not a lot of dressed dolls here), so I thought I’d try offering it directly to
the people who might be interested.

Basically, I
want to put together big “grab bag” boxes on a pay-what-you-want plus
shipping cost system. I’m doing flat rate USPS Priority boxes because these
will probably be heavy anyway, so the cost for a medium box is $14 in the US ($46
international) and the large is $19 ($60 international). I’ll take a lot less
than the stuff is worth to get it to people who might want it, but I can’t
afford to pay to get rid of it, haha.

Here’s the Flickr
album of the stuff that I’m definitely looking to offload, so you can feel free
to stake a claim to specific things that you see. Keep in mind that this is all secondhand stuff; none of it is filthy (I wipe all dolls with disinfecting wipes when I get them) but expect some damages. If you’re worried about the condition of a particular item let me know.

Other than
particular things you see in photos, give me an idea of the kind of stuff you want,
like:

  • Dioramas (I
have a large Priority box with a big bed and spiral staircase that I really
    want to get rid of!)
  • Bratz stuff
  • Mini dolls
  • Vintage
  • Floating heads
  • Articulated
    bodies
  • Disney
  • 1/6 action
    figures
  • Barbie pants
  • 90’s
  • Sparkly stuff
  • Weird dolls
  • etc.

and I’ll do
my best to fill the box with as much of those kinds of things as I can. Just
let me know if you’re interested and we can work something out!

Another doll head I’ve had forever: High School Musical 2 Troy. This is honestly one of my favorite faces Mattel’s ever done. The eye paint is unusual and gorgeous; even with slight wonk as this one has, it has a lot of spark and personality. The face mold is nice and doesn’t have that “celebrity face mold” look at all. But it’s a small head because they apparently decided that the best way to make teenagers was just to shrink down a regular Ken.

I found a Hunter Huntsman and I really wanted to put this head on his body using @dolldirt‘s bread tag trick, but I carved the hole a little too big. OTL I want to try using some hot glue in the neck rim to get it to work, but for now, he’s on a Fashionista Ken body. (No, the clothes really don’t fit.)

Also in the garage sale action figure haul: plain ole single-jointed, no-molded-clothes GI Joes. I kind of prefer this to the super-articulated one to be honest, if only because two of my three SA Joes have had their elbows disintegrate while sitting on my shelf. At least these guys are sturdy.

Anyway, Kocoum here is another “didn’t have a color match for a long time” head. The body looks a lot closer in real life than it does in this photo. OTL He seriously needs paint and styling (look how frizzy that top part is), but I’m way more inspired to do it after @dolljunk‘s great Kocoum.

*insert meme here*

I got ahold of some awesome early-mid 2000’s action figure stuff from a garage sale recently ad have been looking to the best ways to put it to use. This Blaine head is actually one of the very oldest dolls in my collection, but he’s the tan version and darker-skinned posable Kens are in pretty short supply. One of the garage sale finds was the later 21st Century body, though, and it is a perfect skintone match. I really like the body too; it’s a lot more natural than other playline 1/6 I have, except for the hugest double hinge joints on the elbows and knees. Can’t win em all, I guess. Anyway, his neck’s short and I’ll probably space it out somehow but for now I’m content to finally have him be able to sit on my shelf.

Still trying to decide who gets the pale MTM body. Just wasn’t feeling Lois Lane. Here we have Stardoll and Gillian. I like the proportions of the Stardoll; she has a smaller-than-average head and the hybrid looks pretty high-end imo. On the other hand, I’ve had Gillian a long time and the posing makes her face feel more expressive. Indecisiveness.
