I took these boudoir-y photos of Daniel a while back for a Men’s Monday BJD thing that IG was doing a while back. I get the distinct feeling the Tumblr crowd will be more interested than IG though. Thanks for all the nice comments on him!

Here’s the last of my kinda-finished dolls to recap (phew). She’s a Unoa 2nd Cream with the Dollybird face. She has a really weirdly designed body with astonishing bad and weird engineering, but I really wanted her because she can squeeze into Gene fashions and I have a whole lot of them that I got from an estate sale.

I tried to keep her faceup fairly simple but a bit glam. I didn’t sand her eyebrows or anything so those were a bit weird to paint.

This one had been my project for a month or so! She is Large. Very Large. But also not as heavy as a resin SD. She poses well and is super fun. I did pretty extensive mods on her face trying to make her look more stylized and less childlike.

She’s a Parabox 80cm Otohime Yu-Chan and she wears:
26mm eyes (could probably do 28mm since I enlarged them)
16-17 inch wig (Monique human hair and one from Parabox)
Newborn and 0-3 month baby clothes
Size 2 baby shoes

I also followed ao_ame0321 on Twitter’s tips to joint her hands so they’re very fun now. She’s also super fun to dress since I can pick up $2 baby clothes when I go by the thrift store.

I was fortunate to be able to snag both parts of this modded Minifee Tika at once from different sellers! I thought this head had a really appealing look but I didn’t want to get a floating head that was old FL tan and have to find a matching body. Luckily, a matching old tan body popped up. This doll has intense knife cat energy and similar vibes to older CP sculpts like Breakaway which I love. For the faceup I went with a similar vibe to the concepts I abandoned on Soony and I think it suits them better.

I picked up this nice Fairyline Minifee boy body hoping that Tennant or Wes could use it, but it was way too small for both of them. However, what I did have was the extra sleeping head that Dollshe sent with my Saint. I was interested in modding the eyes open to look a bit more like the faceplate Saint with the smaller eyes, and I thought the proportions on the MNF body were really good. I made the wig from a wigcap I’d rejected for my first Saint’s wig because it was too thick, so the wig is kinda bulky but he has a lot of drama.

I could say a whole lot of words about my most grailiest of grail dolls but I will refrain from that and leave you with a bunch of Soony photos with minimal explanation. I will make my scale exception for her, she is the best and I love her. In the less than a year I’ve had her she’s had body mods, she’s had three faceups because I wanted it perfect, she got a rare old F60 body just for me to steal the arms a legs from, and I’ve made her two different hard cap wigs. I’m still feeling out her personality/character but she’s by far my favorite non-OC doll.

In spring 2020 I was going to attend an anime convention that obviously Did Not Happen, so I spent some of the money I’d set aside for that on an anime doll instead. I happened to find both the head and body I wanted readily available for a good price – 55cm Obitsu with a Parabox Sleeping Princess head. I’ve never had a soft vinyl/internal skeleton doll before, but they’re very fun! I was going for Animal Crossing vibes with her faceup (hence no eyebrows) but you can tell that the anime style thing isn’t my wheelhouse, haha.

Also from late 2019 to Summer 2020, here’s Tennant 2.0, which I worked on alongside Daniel. His head sculpt is a lot more refined compared to the first version, and more appropriately scaled. Like Daniel, he’s printed on my Anycubic Photon, primed, and airbrushed. I think it’s cool to see how much I’ve improved at faceups as well! I did go back and darken his brows a bit when I replaced his eyes. I’m very pleased that these two look good together now.

Daniel 2.0! I worked on him (the head + wig, the body is unchanged) from late 2019 through mid 2020. I refined the sculpt slightly and printed it out on an Anycubic Photon resin 3D printer this time. I didn’t do much sanding, just primed and airbrushed the head. The faceup went a lot better this time as well. I made him a wig from some mohair I had custom dyed on Etsy, but I think I’ll make a separate post about wigs later. I’m quite proud of how he turned out.

Hello from August 30th Glace! This is the first post I’m throwing in there since I filled up my queue. I really don’t know how to reply to reblogs and stuff but I’m super touched by everyone’s nice comments and support! Thank you so much!

I bought a BABY from JAPAN, aka: Mandarake had an old Volks doll of the sculpt family I love, described as junk, for a very reasonable price. MSD Schulze on a girl body! Is that not just a Maria?? I don’t know! Old baby is from 2005.

I decided to mod them to look a bit more like their SD counterparts, so I used milliput to shrint the eyes and sanded some sharper angles into the face. I put them down for a long time because I wasn’t feeling the blank face, but once I started on the sescond layer of the faceup I warmed up to it. I’m still trying to land on a good body for them… they’re too mature for the MSD body but not mature enough for a slimmer body (and the head is huge). I did swap out the hands for Akagidoll hands.

I got an Unoa Lusis head at a doll show and decided that I wanted her to be a Sphinx! Imade her body in the posable art doll style and I learned a ton about how to do it better in the future, haha. She has a Buff headback, the sanded Resinsoul Tang upper torso I had left over from Daniel, and a pair of ResinSoul jointed hands. I 3D printed the wrist parts. She borrowed Soony’s wig for the convention I brought her to (November 2019, RIP conventions), then I got her a better one than the gray wig in the top photo there but I haven’t gotten a photo of her in it yet.

In 2019, I was thinking about Doll Chateau’s humantaur dolls and thought I’d scratch the itch with a modding project. I got a couple of the Tall MTM dolls and just went for it. They were attached with Apoxie sculpt, then E6000, then I went over the seam with some acetone-melted plastic goop a la @dolljunk , although I didn’t realize that the skintone didn’t quite match until I saw it in daylight, haha. I’ve since put a better-matching 90s Teresa head on this body.

After I made the Tennant BJD, I had to make Daniel, but he was a much bigger project because I knew that I couldn’t get a body with the right body type (ESPECIALLY not in ¼ size). He was a work in progress through a lot of 2019.

I created the torso sculpt starting with an open source character creation addon for Blender (Manuel Bastioni or something like that? It wasn’t available anymore last I checked.) but I modified/resculpted it quite a bit. The head, like Tennant’s, was done in Sculptris then Blender. I finished the pieces the same way as Tennant’s head… it was just more pieces and a lot more work. I also put some heavy gloss around the joints to protect the paint under the final matte sealant coat, and all the pieces are sueded with real suede very generously. None of the joints have chipped yet.

I used the limbs from the Resinsoul Tang body Tennant was on before and I got some ¼ Dollshe 28M hands. He’s kind of similar in measurements to a DearSD or “Big Baby” doll. I’ve since created an updated head (I didn’t even finish the wig for this one, haha) but the body is still the same.

3D printed Tennant BJD, mk 1, from 2018! He was originally made for a Resinsound Tang body with Dollshe hands, then I got him an Akagidoll body later. He was sculpted by me in Sculptris and finished in Blender. I printed him on my Monosprice Maker Select Plus and finished the head with putty, spray can primer, lots of sanding, and a terrible thick coat of Krylon spray paint. His hard cap wig is saran and very much glued in place, haha.

I’m still pretty proud of him honestly, but I made a version with a refined sculpt, smaller head, and resin print later.

In 2018 I managed to acquire a version of a dream doll of mine, Minifee Juri 2014/Elf Soony! Soony was the first BJD sculpt that I fell in love with so I was thrilled to have a small version of her. She started with a Resinsoul Rong body, which I did pretty much all the same mods that I described on Myr on with the addition of modding the hards into wrist pieces for the Minifee hands. I airbrushed her to match the lighter Resinsoul resin, but did a bad job of it, so the pain was pooled around her nose. I still like her faceup, but I’ve since gotten her a Minifee body, so I will need to do one that isn’t airbrushed lighter.

She’s a mean little vampire matriarch who dresses like a goth teen to get people to underestimate her.

My fashion Saint, Dennis (aka, uh, Saint, I’m very creative). I ordered him in October 2016 and recieved him in September 2017. He’s one of the few dolls I didn’t mod around that time. I like him a lot! I always wanted a Saint but 70cm is too big for me.

Wesley, a Souldoll Soulkid Joelle! The Soulkid NL body is pretty awful to handle. I did extensive mods to the shoulders, legs and hips, but I still replaced his body with an Akagidoll one recently. He’s long overdue for a new faceup. His wig is brushed yarn and he’s had a few custom pairs of eyes, mostly resin… I just keep replacing them whenever I can find smaller irises, haha.
